March 30, 1989 Marvin Tabak, 60, Painter and a Publisher Marvin Tabak, the founder of The New York Almanac, died of liver cancer Tuesday at Beth Israel Hospital. He was 60 years old and lived in Manhattan. Mr. Tabak was born in Manhattan and graduated from New York University and Cooper Union. He was a painter who published The Southampton (L.I.) Voice in the 1960's. He founded The New York Almanac, a weekly publication listing free events in New York, 20 years ago. He also founded The Singles Almanac, which lists events for single people in New York. An accomplished folk dancer, Mr. Tabak started a folk dancing group 18 years ago that meets Sundays from April through October near Belvedere Lake in Central Park. Surviving are his brother, Sol, of Bradenton, Fla., and two sisters, Judith Weinstein of Palm Beach, Fla., and Stella Keen of Forest Hills, Queens.
